The lifespan of an atomiser/coil depends merely on an individual’s vaping habit, the kind of e-cigarette you are using, choice of e-juice flavour, the ecigs settings and the type of coil being used. If you want to get the best flavour and avoid the typical burnt taste, it becomes necessary to replace the coils periodically.
Coils tend to last longer if you prime them. Priming a coil will ensure the wick/cotton gets saturated well with e-juice prior to its first use. This would substantially lower down the risk of burning the wick or damaging the coil.
How Often Should You Replace Your Coil?
While most of the vapers require changing the coil fortnightly, there are certain signs that will show you the right time to replace the coil. What really matters is how often you vape. Vapers who puff a lot throughout the day will have to change the coil more often, on the other hand, occasional vapers, can expect the coil to last several weeks longer.
Signs to Look for Before Getting a New Coil:
Before you decide upon changing the coil, you should be familiar with some of the signs that help you in determining the perfect time to replace a coil.
- Poor Vapour Production:
If you notice that the vapour produced fails to satisfy your cravings in the way as it used to be, then it can be the right time to replace it. Even a drying battery could be a reason, so make sure that it is really the coil’s fault.
- Burnt Vape Taste:
If you sense a burnt taste while using the device, it is evident that the coil requires replacement. The burnt flavour is a perfect indication that your coil needs to be changed immediately. If you ignore and keep on vaping with the same coil, you might end up damaging other parts as well. Keep in mind, you might also get a burnt hit if there is very small amount of juice in the tank, which might cause coils to deteriorate quicker. So, please keep topping up the tank with e-juice.
- When the Cotton Changes To Black Or Brown:
If you notice that the spongy, cotton material inside the cartomiser/tank is black or dark brown, then it is essential to replace the cartomiser/tank. Depending on the thickness and flavour of the e-liquid, the tank can clog up faster and turns to darker shades. If you continue vaping with the clogged tank, the vapour production and performance will suffer.
If you notice that your tank starts leaking or you are getting e-liquid in your mouth after taking a puff, then it is a sign that your coil is at the end of its life.
- MOD screen displays “Check atomizer”:
Most MOD (variable wattage / Voltage) devices will display a message “check atomizer”, at the end of the Coils life. Please have spare coils to replace it as it will not vaporize at all until you replace it with a new one.
Remember that the coils are not designed to be used forever. Along with nicotine e liquids, coils are one of the vaping consumables, which you need to keep always handy. If you are vaping enthusiasts who prefers vaping regularly, your coil will not last for more than a week. For moderate vapers, they get away with replacing the coils every 2 or 3 weeks. The beginners can replace the coils once in a month.
